Unquenchable
Ruchi Sankolli
They say you don’t drink poison when you’re thirsty
But where is the water when you need it?
A garden of red roses,
You forget the green eventually.
Red cherries,
Rebellious yet alluring
Because all you see is the red.
Yes, I see red
But not in the way you mean
Not in the way that seems right
Not in the way you want me to.
I see red
Because that’s the only thing available
In this otherwise colorless world,
With colorblind people,
Who haven’t seen the light of the day
And the dark of the night.
People who haven’t seen what true love is
Or what it truly means
For him to call me his.
Until then,
This thirst runs rampant,
Uninvited
But unquenchable at the same time.
