A Friend in the Corner

Rylee Copeland

Have you ever seen yourself from an outside perspective?
Like you’re a ghost watching scenes play out before your eyes?
It scared me when I saw a girl pacing the room.
She mumbled and muttered to herself. I was surprised.

Her breaths were heavy, hurting her chest.
“I wish I had someone!” were the words she kept speaking.
A gaze from the corner, a figure that will be best.
Oh my, what was the frenzied girl thinking?

“Too much! Too much! You should leave now.”
The figure in the corner was angered by her pacing around.
“I know you more than you may understand.”
The girl stopped moving, hit by the sound.

“Do you love me? Do you like me? Can you handle my feelings?”
The other one in the room chuckled and sat down.
“You’re worth it, I’m sure; stop the reeling.”
The girl couldn’t help but frown.

She sat on the floor with a choked little sob.
How could someone make you feel so seen?
This is what I was made for, isn’t it odd?
A new life is blooming, if you get what I mean.
